Introduction

The Lions Youth Brass are a quite unique organisation which are essentially self running and governing and yet continue to grow year on year. Financial support is provided partly through sponsorship from the Lions Clubs of 105BS but also through many fund raising activities carried out by the bands and their supporters.

The are currently 3 bands; The Lions Beginner Brass, who accept complete beginners, give them an instrument and teach them all of the basic aspects of playing and perform together several times a year. The Lions Junior Brass then aim to take the beginner players and mould them into higher level players performing in concerts and competitions throughout the year. The Lions Youth Brass are the pinicle and compete against other Youth Bands on a national level as well as performing at a wide variety of concert venues and touring every summer.

Membership is currently around 100 players, split accross the 3 bands and is continuing to grow.

A Brief History of Lions Youth Brass

The Lions Youth Brass Band was formed in 1989 as the Crewe & District Brass Band, by a group of parents whose children played brass band instruments. At the beginning of the year there were 29 players in the Youth Band and 18 in the training band. After the first year the membership increased and the organisation began to receive financial support from the local Lions clubs of South Cheshire and North Staffordshire. The band changed its name to Lions Youth Brass, and is believed to be the only organisation of its kind in the world to operate in the name of Lions Youth Brass.

The grandmother of a band member volunteered to make red banners for the music stands and committee members carefully stitched on the Lions badges. These must be some of the most travelled Lions badges around!!

The band entered its first contest The Action Research Entertainment Contest 1989, Spurley Hey Manchester.
