Compositions
I have composed a few compositions of my own over the last few years. Several of them are below along with m4a/midi files so that you can listen to them. If you would like any information regarding them, sound examples in a different format, or information on where you can obtain parts please contact me by email to ian-raisbeck@trumpetplayer.co.uk The material below is for demonstration purposes only, feel free to take a copy of the file but please contact me if you'd like to use it for any other purpose other than personal use. My compositions during this time are almost exclusively written for the Lions Youth Brass, I undertake projects as requested by the musical directors as well as items which I think will enhance the bands repertoire as well as my own skills. The works are considerably different in style as my aim is always to educate the young performers in as many different types of music as possible while always making sure the music is within their capabilities. Fantasia on a British March – 2009 Commissioned by the Lions Youth Brass, a demanding Horn Solo for my brother Neil Raisbeck to be premiered at the National Youth Brass Band Championships 2009. Jazz Suite for Juniors – 2008 Commissioned by the Lions Junior Brass, a 2 movement jazz suite to be premiered at the Newcastle Festival 2009. Morte Criste – 2008 Commissioned by the Lions Youth Brass, an arrangement of the choral meditation 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross'. The Rise of the Weaver – 2008 Commissioned by the Lions Beginner Brass, a short suite of 3 movements influenced by river scenes. The Lion King – 2008 An arrangement featuring 3 songs from the film 'The Lion King'. Arrangement commissioned by the Lions Junior Brass and performed in their winning performance at Newcastle Under-Lyme Music Festival. Rhapsody for Euphonium and Band – 2007 A showpiece for Alex Holsgrove and the Lions Youth Brass. Demanding solo displaying all of the instruments capabilities. Minuet and Rondo – 2007 A two movement original composition for Junior Brass. In a Classical style. To be premiered by Lions Junior Brass at Newcastle-under-Lyne music festival, March 2007. March 'Lions Junior Brass' – 2007 An original composition in a traditional march format for Junior Band. The Music Man – 2006 (revised 2008) An arrangement of the popular children's song in an entertaining way featuring all of the instruments of the band and many soloists. Commissioned for an entertainment contest performance in 2006. Performed extensively on a Tour of Spain 2008 and then revised in time for recording on the Lions Youth Brass CD 'Entertain You'. Caprice - 2006 An original tenor horn solo for my brother Neil Raisbeck. Very technically demanding solo part, fairly simple accompaniment. Intrada - 2006 An original work designed to start a concert. Fanfares and majestic tunes are the main feature of this piece. Party Piece – 2006 For the Lions Junior Brass. As the title suggests a fun piece, in several short movements. Performed as the winning performance at the Newcastle Under-Lyme Music Festival 2006. Chaconne – 2005 An arrangement of the work by Henry Purcell; stately in character and a useful look back at baroque for the brass band players. The Junior Suite – 2005 (Performed by Lions Junior Brass on CD ‘True and Trusty’) 3 short movements, prelude – air – finale. A nice little suite written especially for the Lions Junior Brass. They performed it as they won at Newcastle Under-Lyme music festival and then recorded it as their contribution to the Youth Band CD in 2004.
Great Gable – 2005 Named after the mountain this piece tells the story of a mysterious ascent which as it progresses reveals a spectacular summit. This is the first instalment of a suite that will be completed in the future. Thine Be The Glory – 2005 Commissioned by Lions for two contest performances in 2005. This is an arrangement of the Hymn tune originally composed by Handel for the opera Judas Maccabeaus. Reunion – 2004 A March written for the 15th Anniversary concert of the Lions Youth Brass Band and premiered by a special ensemble made up of past members. A traditional Brass Band style march. Something Beautiful – 2004 An arrangement of the Robbie Williams hit, this is a chance for the brass band to explore big band playing. Lions performed this with great success on their tour of Czech Republic in 2004. A Hymn for Betty – 2004 (Performed by Lions Youth Brass on CD ‘True and Trusty’) As the title suggests this is an original Hymn for brass band. It is dedicated to a great supporter of the band who sadly passed away. This is in 3 verses and was recorded by the band in 2004. Fantasy Variations – 2004 (Recorded by Lions Youth Brass on the CD 'Loyal and True') Composed for my sister Sarah Raisbeck and performed at concerts over the last couple of years. Sarah also performed it with the band at the national youth brass band championships in April 2006. Autumn – 2003 Baritone solo accompanied by Brass Band, dedicated to Katie Smallwood. A lyrical slow melody performed at many concerts over the past few years. Also available with Piano accompaniment. Getting Together – 2002 (Performed by Ian Raisbeck with RNCM Junior School, live performance) The only work on this recording not for Brass Band. A concerto for Trumpet and Chamber Orchestra originally written as a project. Recorded during a concert with myself and the Royal Northern College of Music Junior School orchestra during my time there. In 3 movements it is based on traditional composition techniques but joining various influences together in one piece. |
